| Local 587 is an association of men and women organized to maintain our rights and improve our wages, hours and working conditions primarily through collective bargaining with our employers.
Local 587 is part of the Amalgamated Transit Union, AFL-CIO. We are the largest ATU local on the West Coast with about 4000 active and 300 retired members in King, Clallam and Jefferson counties. Although the majority of our members are transit operators, we have approximately 800 members working in over 80 craft occupations.

An executive board elected by our membership supervises and directs the management of the union. The executive board includes four full-time and 17 classification or employer specific representatives.
- President elected from the membership at large;
- Vice President elected from the membership at large;
- Financial Secretary elected from the membership at large;
- Recording Secretary elected from the membership at large.
- One Minority Affairs Officer elected from the membership at large;
- Eight King County Metro Transit Operator representatives;
- Three King County Metro Vehicle Maintenance representatives;
- One King County Metro Facilities Maintenance representative;
- One King County Metro Special Classification representative;
- One King County Metro First Line Supervisor representative;
- One representative from bargaining units within King County and outside the King County Metro bargaining unit;
- One representative from bargaining units outside of King County.
