The officer server was a garage build collection of out dated components requiring constant repair. Newer server models offered much greater processing speed and expanded storage capacity. Work station software was out of date with different editions at each work station causing constant service calls to maintain operation.
Within a few short months a new copying machine, server and software were purchased and a new vendor was hired to install and maintain office computer systems. All of the updates were accomplished at a net cost savings in comparison to the previous year’s annual service billing.
This webpage and the greatly expanded information it provides is just one example of the improvements to office productivity. The same systems that bring you this webpage are also scanning and storing the information needed to build an ever increasing grievance and arbitration database allowing union business agents the tools needed to research ongoing grievances. Local 8 Union office staff is converting years of accumulated paper files into electronic documents making the information far more accessible and eliminating the need for outside paper file storage.
As we transition from the 19th to the 21st century in technological improvements the requirement to keep new systems simple has been an imperative. We are well aware of the changing political climate and are committed to providing those who follow us in union service, office technology that is both easy to use and powerful in performance.
